Backpacks for Kids

The Durham County DSS Volunteer Program's Backpacks for Kids provides DSS clients enrolled in a Durham school (public or charter) with new school supplies and new book bag.

Durham County DSS social workers identify students who are in need of assistance. Eligible DSS clients receive a grade appropriate pre-assembled school kit with new school supplies and a new book bag

In 2010, more than 300 students received new book bags and supplies through this program.

The event culminates with a celebration in which families and sponsors come together to kick off a new school year and clients pick up their school supplies.
