“Youth Service Awards”
Civic engagement is an important part of TNVLC’s mission. Youth ages 12-18 are encouraged to volunteer and become involved with local nonprofits of their choosing. They may apply for one or more of the awards listed below. All award winners are recognized at the annual Tomorrow’s Community Leaders Award Ceremony.

Commissioners’ Award
Students serve 50 or more volunteer hours during the school year.

Mayor’s Award
Students serve 60 or more volunteer hours during summer break. Mayor’s Award winners have their picture taken with the Mayor of Durham and are invited to apply to the Student Action Board described below.

President’s Award
Youth that meet the program’s criteria can receive Presidential recognition for volunteer hours served. Winners receive:

  • The official President’s Volunteer Service Award pin
  • A personalized certificate of achievement
  • A congratulatory letter from the President of the United States
